  1. A great lost groover on Verve – recorded during the heyday of the label's bossa years with Stan Getz! The record features Bob Brookmeyer fronting a large group arranged and conducted by Lalo Schifrin – soloing over the top, while Lalo comes up with sparkling bossa-tinged grooves that are in the spirit of his best soundtrack work of the mid 60s.

  6. Mar 10,  · This is Lalo Schifrin & Bob Brookmeyer - Samba para Dos (), for Verve. Someone said before that Lalo Schifrin early works dedicated to the Bossa Nova repertoire were worth to dig. I can't remember the friend's name and he was absolutely right.
  7. Brookmeyer told me this story about "Samba Para Dos": He was originally hired to play in the brass section; this was Lalo Schifrin's project and the idea was to feature a Brasilian singer, cushioned by Lalo's masterful arrangements and occasional solos by flutist Leo Wright (an alum, like Lalo, of Dizzy Gillespie's quintet), saxophonist Phil Woods, guitarist Jimmy Raney, and of course, the /5(3).
